The Sensational Josephine Baker Makes Its Off of Broadway Premiere, Previews 9/7

Emerging Artists Theatre, the company that produced last season's hit Penny Penniworth, presents the Off-Broadway premiere from the Sensational Josephine Baker, a rich, comedic, moving musical portrait from the exclusive iconic Jazz Age legend, Josephine Baker. Preview performances commence Tuesday, September 7th, opening night are going to be Tuesday, September 14 as well as the perform will operate as a result of Sunday, October 3rd at TADA Theatre, 15 West 28th Street, 2nd floor, among Broadway and 5th Avenue. Written and done by Cheryl Howard and directed by Ian Streicher, the unforgettable story on the one and only Josephine Baker springs to lifestyle in this tightly woven perform featuring various of Baker's signature songs. The tale follows Josephine on her journey from conservative St. Louis, Missouri towards risqu¨¦ cabarets with the Rue Pigalle, France, from little girl to showgirl. Howard presents voice to this uncensored and emotional tale as a result of an array of fascinating female characters: Josephine's domineering mother, Carrie McDonald; fellow chorus lady Lydia Jones; Ada "Bricktop" Smith, owner with the infamous nightclub "Bricktop's in Montmarte..<br>." And as a final point a raw, fearless portrayal of Ms. Baker herself in the series of defining moments: on the hilarious antics which rescued her from your obscurity of the chorus, towards the humiliation of becoming shunned by a narrow-minded American public, to her life-long search for unconditional love... compelled throughout it all by an enduring passion to reside life towards the fullest.

Cheryl Howard has toured and executed extensively through the United States and Europe. Broadway credits consist of: Bebe in Dance just a little Closer; with the American Area Theatre organization as Zora Neale Hurston in their manufacturing Zora; with the MCC theatre examining of Black and White as Kali; Adele in Golden Motors at the Flea Theatre. Regionally, she has starred since the Witch in Into the Woods; Mazeppa in Gypsy; Pattie Mae in Residence, the Musical; LaLa inside Colored Museum; Josephine Baker in Lucky from the Rain; Miss Monisha in Tin Pan Alley Rag; and Muzzie in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Cheryl has starred as Deena Jones in Dreamgirls in Berlin, Germany, and as Josephine Baker in Josephine: The Music, which toured all through Europe, winning her a Golden Heart Award for Ideal Actress in a very Music and Greatest Music. She has taught Musical Theatre Workshops in the Stages Performing Arts Academy in St. Louis, MO and holds a B.A. in theatre arts from Rutgers University and a Masters degree in Drama from Washington University in St. Louis.

The Sensational Josephine Baker was presented like a reading in EAT's A person Woman Standing sequence last season.
